A Thousand Chances

broken20heart1I don’t understand why I let myself stay with you after all your lies and the tears I have cried. The hold you have had on me is nearly gone. I have had enough. I’ll be gone soon. You’ve had a thousand chances to treat me better and have wasted every one. V.M.

There are times when the actual experience
of leaving something makes you wish desperately
that you could stay, and then there are times
when the leaving reminds you a hundred times over
why exactly you had to leave in the first place.

You Say….

broken20heart1You say you love me, but don’t show it. You say I’m the only one, but are secretive about where you go and who you’re with. You say you want us together forever, but refuse to talk about marriage. You say you always tell me the truth, but I know you lie to. S.C.

You say that you love rain,
but you open your umbrella when it rains…
You say that you love the sun,
but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines…
You say that you love the wind,
But you close your windows when wind blows…
This is why I am afraid;
You say that you love me too…

Black-Hearted Monster

broken20heart1Even though I don’t want you after how deeply you hurt me, my heart still jumps a half beat when I hear about you. Seeing you in the distance when you don’t see me rattles me for hours. No, I don’t want you but I still love you. Wish that would go away. L.M.

Every fairytale has a villain.
All high quality happy endings
involve a black-hearted monster.
I just didn’t want you to be mine.

Every Tear She Sheds

broken20heart1It’s sad when someone you know so well becomes someone you once knew. Now you treat me almost like I was never a part of your life. We used to talk for hours about our dreams of a future life together. Now you say nothing and won’t even look me in the eye. R.W.

sad and broken hearted

Sitting in her room,
nobody by her side.
She sits there waiting for her doom
with bruises on her pride.
Her eyes have turned bright red.
Fresh tears have stained each cheek.
With every tear she sheds,
she starts to grow quite weak.
Her heart was struck and shattered.
She threw away each piece.
Those memories that once mattered,
she now cares for the least.
She used to fly with angel wings,
the sun’s rays were her crown.
Until one day a change of things
that sent her spiraling down.
She never thought she’d feel this way,
so sad and broken-hearted.
But then it came the dreadful day,
the boy she loved departed.

Steady Drain

broken20heart1Up and downs, but a lot more downs than ups; that’s you and me. The happy times aren’t worth the constant fighting and bickering we can’t break out of. We need to admit we’re not a good fit for each other before there’s so much damage you and I hate each other. B.T.

couple-not-talking

For weeks and months it is a steady physical pain,
an ache about the heart, never leaving one,
by night or by day; a long strain on one’s nerves
like toothache or rheumatism,
not intolerable at any one instant,
but exhausting by its steady drain on the strength.
Henry Brooks Adams

Into Pieces So Numerous

broken20heart1There’s no doubt we loved each other, but we hurt each other so badly. Our relationship is like a vase shattered into pieces so numerous and small it can never be put back together. Without kindness, understanding and forgiveness our love did not survive. A.O.

Most People Don’t Grow Up

broken20heart1You go to a game when there’s work to be done on our house. We never go out, but you often get drunk with your buddies. You have no ambition. The only job you’re able to keep is in construction. I’m tired of taking care of two kids when one of them is you! B.O.

Most people don’t grow up.
Most people age.
They find parking spaces,
honor their credit cards,
get married, have children,
and call that maturity.
What that is, is aging.

Before I Become A Ridiculous Fool?

broken20heart1The hardest part about you leaving me is I can’t stop thinking about you. There are fewer thoughts now than right after you left, but I still spend too much time wishing things could be good for ‘us’ again. How long can I hope that before I become a ridiculous fool? T.G.

I want to feel your touch
on my skin.
I want to hear your voice
whisper in my ear.
I want you to love me
like I loved you.
I want you to hurt like
I have been hurting
I wish fairy tales were true
because you
you would have saved my heart,
not broken it in two.

Broke Us Apart

broken20heart1Romance has little reverence for age difference, but the mind does. While hearts may become parallel, differences of life experience can create a chasm. Fifteen years seemed small at first, but became insurmountable and broke us apart. J.B.

Whoever, in middle age,
attempts to realize
the wishes and hopes
of his early youth,
invariably deceives himself.
Each ten years of a man’s life
has its own fortunes,
its own hopes,
its own desires.

I’m Through

broken20heart1I want to be with you, but I’m afraid of getting hurt and because of that, I end up getting hurt more. I sit here and say I don’t care about you and I’m not going to let you hurt me, and just by saying that I know that you already have. It’s not your fault, it never is. It’s me. D.J.

I’m through with romance,
I’m through with love,
I’m through with counting the stars above,
and here’s the reason that I’m so free,
my loving baby is through with me.
