Favorite ‘Could-Have-Been’

broken20heart1Just because we’re not together doesn’t mean I don’t love you. Since our destiny has not been a life together I think I love you even more. You’re the dream always in my mind, the hope never to leave my heart and the favorite ‘could-have-been’ in my soul. C.B.

If you could go back and change just one thing
about your life, would you? And if you did,
would that change make your life better?
Or, would that change ultimately break your heart?
Or break the heart of another?
Would you choose an entirely different path?
Or would you change just one thing?
Just one moment.
One moment that you always wanted back.
Lucas Scott

Frozen In Time

broken20heart1The last time I saw you was close to twenty years ago. You are frozen in time in my heart and mind just like you were then. I’m a good reason you don’t have to regret getting older for within me you will always be young, beautiful, vibrant and loved always. C.B.

To love and win is the best thing.
To love and lose, the next best.
William M. Thackeray

Nothing But A Burden

broken20heart1 Once we were madly in love and couldn’t keep our hands off one other. Now we hardly talk, we don’t kiss and haven’t made love in months. It seems like the great gift that once was our love has turned into nothing but a burden. How did we let this happen to us?

Love that does not
renew itself every day
becomes a habit
and in turn a slavery.
Khalil Gibran

Pretend We’re Half Our Age

broken20heart1It’s okay to fantasize about seeing you again. There’d be no harm in reminiscing together the love of a lifetime we shared long ago. Through laughter and tears we could resurrect the young man and young woman as we once were and pretend we’re half our age. L.U.

In what other lives or lands
Have I known your lips
Your Hands
Your Laughter brave
Those sweet excesses that
I do adore.
What surety is there
That we will meet again,
On other worlds some
Future time undated.

What Ever You Want

broken20heart1How was I to know there was still a flame in my heart for you? I could not have imagined all these years later such sweet feelings were waiting to be awakened. Time’s been a kind companion. It fogged out the heartache and left only deeply joyful memories of you. J.B.

You have my heart inside your hands,
you can do what ever you want with it…
BURN it,
BUT remember you are inside.

What Was Once

broken20heart1There is regret in my soul that it took so long, but I forgive you. If there is still love in your heart for me, say so. It does not matter whether we are together or not. It does not matter if I ever see you again. Above everything what does matter is if you still love me. B.C.

What I have evidence of
in every letter, in every word….
Write no new letters,
speak no new words,
look no new looks;
only tell me,
years hence
that the present is alive,
that what was once, still is
and I am … blessed as ever.
Robert Browning To Elizabeth Barrett March 11, 1846

Could It Be?

My heart has been broken many times and disappointed many times more. Mistakes and ill choices were often made in ignorance. But I am older, wiser and know better how to love and be loved now. As long my lungs breathe I will hope for the ‘one’ to find me. O.O.

Could it be that I once saw you
In a dream as old as time
And could it be the arms holding you
Were really mine the whole time?
Could you have been my one and only
The reason I woke each new day
The one thing I always needed
The one for whom I use to pray?
Could it be that I still love you
And once again I’ll find
That you’re not just a memory
Only to be viewed in my mind?
Could it be, oh Lord I pray,
Just one thing I ask of you
If you’re out there waiting
You’ll try to find me too?

Safe With Me

If it were possible I’d bear your pain for you. But I can’t make the abuse you suffered as a kid go away. When things get to you, please remember I did not hurt you; I’ll always be here for you and most of all I love you with all my heart. You’re safe with me. J.D.

Only the weak are cruel.

expected from the strong.

Out My Window

Plainly simple, I still love you and often find thoughts dancing in my head about time we shared. The grief of our ending has long passed replaced by gratefulness for what was. I hope you are happy, healthy and enjoying your life. Always you’ll be in my heart. V.M.

Gazing out my window
I thought of yesterdays
The faces and the gestures
And how the laughter fades
Wondered if you’re happy
Or if you found your way
From long nights in November
And the promise that we made.
