The Rest Has Been Preparation

There have been heart breakers, pretenders and those whose love was temporary. For a time I loved each one; some more; some less. Even after all the pain my faith remains strong that one day the love I wait for will come. All the rest has been preparation for your arrival. P.W.

I look off in the distance
at the skies of pink and blue
as the sun sets in the sky,
I am waiting for you.
The day has past, and night has come
The sky is bright with stars
But I won’t move and I won’t sleep,
I am waiting for you.
The days go by but I won’t cry,
For I know you’ll be here soon.
I won’t lose faith,
I will not stray,
I’ll stay and wait for you.
From “I Am Waiting For You” by Saphire Nightengale

Seek Not My Heart

I have to leave you now. I’m going to that corner there and turn. You must stay in the car and drive away. Promise not to watch me go beyond the corner. Just drive away and leave me as I leave you. I don’t know how to say goodbye. I can’t think of any words. “Roman Holiday”

Seek not my mournful heart kind breeze,
For you’ll not find it ‘mongst these trees.
It’s scattered ‘cross the moonlit skies,
Accompanied by heartfelt sighs.
It’s drifting o’re the gentle rain,
A symbol of my silent pain.
It’s buried ‘neath the meadow fair,
Conjoined with all the sorrow there.
It’s lost among the stars this night,
Too far to ease my quiet fright.
No gentle winds, seek not my heart,
For simply … it has torn apart.
From “Seek Not My Heart” by Kit McCallum

Foresake Me Again

You say you love me and I say I love you too. On one hand I’m happy and on the other fearful. Once before you expressed your feelings this way and left me a year later. I’ve let you back into my life, but can’t make the fear go away that you will forsake me again. A.F.

You say that you love rain,
but you open your umbrella when it rains…
You say that you love the sun,
but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines…
You say that you love the wind,
But you close your windows when wind blows…
This is why I am afraid;
You say that you love me too…
Turkish poem called “I Am Afraid” (Korkuyorum)

Your Love In Everything

Accepting life will expire for someone loved never completely comes even after they’re gone. Sometimes I forget for a moment and expect to run into you just around the corner. You’re still with me but I miss your voice, your touch, the way you looked at me and lots more. C.S.

I’ll catch your smile on someone’s face,
Your whisper in the wind’s embrace
Through diamond stars and songs and dreams
I find your love in everything

The sun, the sky, the rolling sea
All conspire to comfort me.
From sorrow’s edge life’s beauty seems
To find your love in everything.

I’ve come to trust the hope it brings
To find your love in everything.
Even as I fall apart,
Even through my shattered heart,
I’ll catch your smile on someone’s face
…..amazing grace.

Silence Breaks the Heart

You don’t answer your phone when I call and ignore my texts. When I run into you by chance you look away and won’t speak to me. I know what I did was wrong, but there’s a lot you don’t know. Please talk to me and listen to what I have to say. I love you and I’m sorry. A.N.

Sticks and stones are hard on bones
Aimed with angry art,
Words can sting like anything
But silence breaks the heart.

A Hazy Sleepwalk of Misery

Finally the realization has come to get on with my life. You’re not coming back. For a year I’ve lived in a daze; one day after another just a hazy sleepwalk of misery. I may not be able to stop loving you but I have to wake up. Somehow, someway I have to move on. S.T.

As of now, I am moving on.
Through and out, this hard time.
The clouds will clear, and the storm will pass.
Things are looking up, as I raise the mast.
Sailing on, and moving out.
From these dark days, I muster all my clout.
I am ready, to start again.
Just to see, where life begins.

Along the Same Fault Lines

I can’t stop wondering why you ran away. I think I know, but the thought hurts. You still love me but are ashamed to admit what happened. You left me, went back to your old boyfriend and got hurt again, didn’t you? It strangles my heart every time I imagine you with him. L.L.

Until this moment,
I had not realized
that someone could
break your heart twice,
along the very same fault lines.

A Yearning Comes Over Me

Some days I’m fine and on others just OK. Then there are days when I’m reminded of you like seeing a couple in love, a song, a movie, a place, or something someone says.  Then a yearning comes over me and I’m reminded how deeply I am still in love with you. C.B.

 Sometimes,
when one person is missing,
the whole world seems depopulated.

A Heart Around Your Name

No longer do I know where you are. Your phone number changed. You’ve moved far away with no forwarding address. No one I ask is aware of where you ended up. I date others and go out with friends, but my heart is still yours. Wherever you are, I love you, always. S.S.

I think of you in Silence.
I often speak your name.
All I have left are memories
and a heart around your name.
My heart aches with sadness
and all my tears flow.
What it meant to lose you
no-one will ever know.

Never Goes Away

Loving you was not the first time I’d given my heart, nor will it be the last. However, there’s something unmistakably unique about what I felt for you and feel to this very moment. I have resigned myself to it never changing. From a distance I will always love you. J.B.

Thinking of you is easy.
I do it every day.
Missing you is the heartache,
that never goes away.
