Doesn’t Always Last Forever

Children, careers and time teamed up on us and we were too weak as a couple to overcome the effects. Over time we lost each other and as hard as we tried we couldn’t regain the magic we once had. I will always regret learning a forever love doesn’t always last forever. D.E.

Ever has it been
that love knows not
its own depth
until the hour of separation.
Kahlil Gibran

Once I Get Over You

I keep telling my self, of course, you’re going to get your heart-broken.  That’s part of life, and it makes me stronger. One day someone will come along, and it’ll all pay off. Then no one will ever break my heart again; that is once I get over you and how you hurt me. A.F.

As soon as
forever is through,
I’ll be over you.
Lyrics by Toto

Making It OK

Over time it became painfully obvious we should not be together, but logic hasn’t stopped me from day-dreaming about what might have been. Hindsight has saved the good times & forgotten the bad. I suppose that’s lifes way of making me OK we’re no longer together. K.M.

We had a lot of fun
When we were together
I’ll never forget
I’ll always remember.

The laughs that we shared
The dreams that we had
But those dreams changed
And they left me sad.

I know you’ve moved on
And found someone new
But I have to admit
I still wish for you.

This isn’t healthy for me
I really need to stop
When I think about our past
My heart wants to pop.

So as I say my last goodbye
I want you to know
That I’m trying my best
To learn to just let go.

A Loss I Can’t Replace

Eventually I got past the grief of you leaving me behind. For the longest time I couldn’t image being with anyone else. Our ending ruined my belief that love conquers all. Now my heart knows what a fragile and delicate state of being loving and being loved back truly is. H.B.

If only you could see the tears
In the world you left behind.
If only you could heal my heart
Just one more time.
Even when I close my eyes
There is an image of your face.
And Once again I come to realize
You are a loss I can’t replace.
From the song
“Why Did You Leave Me”
by Westlife

Just Once Upon a Time

Ten thousand times I have asked myself when did I begin to fall out of love with you. Well I remember being head over heals about you with a feeling that was amazingly profound. Nothing happened, yet one day my love began to diminish. I can’t help it. I’m so sorry. V.M.

Falling in love
is not always
a happily ever after story.
Most of the time,
it’s just once upon a time.

An Expiration Date

How could I have known when you said “I love you” it had an expiration date? I thought you were still as deeply in love with me as I am with you. Now you say you can’t help it, but love for me is no longer in your heart. I am so lost and confused with no idea what to say. K.W.

I never felt true love
until I was with you,
and I never felt true sadness
until you left me.

My Noon, My Midnight…

Why love comes, stays a while and diminishes is as mysterious as why it rains and more difficult to predict. When sensing the coming of a storm there is never certainty if a feeling is accurate. I sensed you were falling out of love with me and sadly, I was correct. T.J.

He was my North, my South,
my East and West,
My working week
and Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight,
my talk, my song;
I thought that love
would last forever:
I was wrong.
English-American poet, Wystan Hugh
