I Hate/Love You

broken20heart11I hate you. I despise you. I’m disgusted by you. I loathe you. I detest you. I abhor you. I’m repulsed by you. I can’t stand you. I can’t bear to see you. I dislike you. You’re bad for me. You’re okay. I like you. I care for you. I’m fond of you. I love you. S.A.

Sometimes I love you,
sometimes I had you,
but there isn’t a day
that goes by that
I don’t miss you.

Worse than Hopeless

broken20heart11It’s feels like my broken heart is a terminal illness I could die from soon. There’s no other way to explain this pain that goes on day and night. This illness keeps me from sleeping. I’m so sick I can barely work. I barely eat. Worse than hopeless is my diagnosis. K.J.

If you drop me, I will break.
If you hold me, I will shake.
If you need me, I will hurry.
If you don’t call me, I will worry.
If you hurt me, I will cry.
But if you leave me, I will die.

It’s Over

broken20heart11Once upon a time we fell deeply in love with each other. Everything was good for a while. Then you cheated on me. I got even by cheating on you. We forgave each other but the damage is done. We’ll never be the same. Don’t you see it’s over?

Save-a-relationship

It can be difficult to leave a long-term relationship,
even when our inner-wisdom tells us it’s time to let go.
At this point, we can choose let go and endure
the intense pain of leaving behind the familiar
to make way for a new chapter in our life.
Or we can stay and suffer a low-grade pain
that slowly eats away at our heart and soul,
like an emotional cancer. Until we wake up one day
and realize, we are buried so deep in the dysfunction
of the relationship that we scarcely remember
who we were and what we wanted and needed to be.

As Time Passed

broken20heart11At first losing you filled me with pain and little else. As time passed I began to see how blessed I was to have loved you and to have been loved by you. Sometimes a person comes into a life and then passes on but that makes the goodness of that love no less.  B.F.

I’d rather love a million times
and have my heart-broken every time,
than hold a permanently empty heart forever.

Once In a Lifetime

broken20heart11Being with you was not the first time I have fallen in love, but it was the deepest plunge my heart has ever made. I’ll never again be able to give as much again as I gave you. Once in a life time only comes one time. E.W.

Why-do-women-cry

She’d cried over a broken heart before.
She knew what that felt like,
and it didn’t feel like this.
Her heart felt
not so much broken
as just …
empty…

Remember How Good

broken20heart11Several of the best memories of my life are about you. That afternoon when we met was magical and I will never forget it. Even though we’re no longer together I still think of you sometimes and remember how good the good parts of us really were. B.D.

What I remember most
is the searing sensation
of looking into her eyes
for the first time,
eyes that would hunt me
for the rest of my life.

Eight Rules of Divorce

broken20heart1It took a divorce to teach me how marriage should work. That’s what I thought. Love has failed again and another decree is in my hands. The Eight Rules of Getting Over a Divorce: Fall down. Grieve. Get up. Try again. Forgive. Let go. Learn. Move on. J.B.

Americans, who make more of marrying for love
than any other people, also break up more of their marriages,
but the figure reflects not so much the failure of love
as the determination of people not to live without it.

Won’t Be the Same

broken20heart1I was blind and didn’t see it coming. Saying you were leaving to be with someone else was like being punched in the stomach. Stunned and feeling like I wanted to throw up, I watched you leave. Now comes the pain. I won’t be the same for a long time. L.H.

I examine my hands.
Same hands.
Rings still there
but no longer valid.

Being a Grown-Up

broken20heart1My dreams seemed so possible before you. Then I imagined falling madly for someone and being happy with them for the rest of my life. Now I’m afraid. My dreams are broken. My belief in love is no longer pure and naive. I hate being a ‘grown-up’. R.P.

Day and Night

broken20heart1It seemed certain we’d always be together. The days, weeks, months and years all ran together. I took us for granted and mistreated you. Only now that you’re gone do I realize you were the center of my universe. Day and night all I think about is you. C.W.

poor guy

You never knew the last time you were seeing someone.
You didn’t know when the last argument happened,
or the last time you had sex,
or the last time you looked into their eyes
and thanked God they were in your life.
After they were gone?
That was all you thought about.
Day and night.
