Once In a While

It’s an involuntary action once in a while when I’m walking alone and reach for your hand. At that moment I’m lost in thought remembering our days together. I forget for a split second you’re gone. I feel foolish, then sad, but end up feeling glad for a time when you loved me. C.B.

How desperately
my empty hands
always search
for your hands
to hold…

Every Mistake Is a Weapon

broken20heart1Our consistent pastime is dwelling on what is wrong with our relationship and each other. Every mistake is as a weapon to be used. If we worked as hard on being together as we do on driving each other away maybe we’d find peace with each other. B.B.

Hurt shouldn’t pile up like this inside of someone.
No one should suffocate beneath pain on top of pain.
You should have time to breathe,
time to scream it out until it doesn’t exist anymore.
Sharde Richardson

Once More Thou Were Mine

broken20heart1Many memories fade over time, but not those of you. In the right circumstance I travel back and am almost there with you. It takes only a song, a smell, a sound, a rainy day, food prepared a particular way or a hundred other things and I am transported. H.P.

Twas but a word, a single word
A stranger’s lip expressed
And yet my spirit’s depths were stirred
With feelings long repressed.
Unbidden tear-drops dimmed my eyes,
My lips still wore a smile;
O how the heart can grief disguise,
And learn deception’s wile.
Thoughts, rushing thoughts, came wild and fast,
The present, it was not,
I only saw the long, long past,
How could it be forgot?
Young voices murmured in mine ear,
With radiant mirth and glee,
But I, alas! could only hear
The heart that spoke of thee.
And that hand was clasped in mind,
Once more thou were mine own,
And ‘neath the crescent pale shine,
On the hill-side, alone.

You Did Not Break My Heart

broken20heart1I feel sad this morning and it’s all my fault. We shared a unique and special life together, but I kept looking for something else thinking there must be more. I had it all and only realized it after you were gone. You did not break my heart. I did. C.B.

One More Tear

broken20heart1There are things we don’t want but have to accept; lessons we don’t wish for but have to learn; people we can’t live without but have to let go; the perfection of a new love that faded over time and always one more tear to shed over what was lost. Y.M.

No perfection can last forever.
Time tears at it;
wears it down
until it’s nothing,
just an empty shell.

Get You Back

broken20heart1Blame is self-destructive habit, but I do it anyway. I blame me for letting you go. I blame you for leaving. Over and over I’ve tried to figure out what happened. I have decided instead of being tormented by your memory, I am going to try to get you back. C.O.

Our eyes crossed,
my voice was lost,
Her smile destroyed my soul;
Words were broken,
thoughts were awoken,
Why must she torment me so.
From a poem by Peter Wetzel

Outside and Inside

broken20heart1Most of the time I’m fine; sometimes I’m not. Tears don’t show up often anymore when I remember what we shared. However, when I lie in bed at night remembering the tenderness in how we once made love, I cry tears on the outside and inside all over my heart. K.M.

Real Tears Are Not Those
That Fall From Eyes
And Cover The Face,
But Those That Fall From Heart
And Cover The Soul…

It Is A Fever

broken20heart1Time has smoothed off the rough edges of my memory. Now almost nothing but good times remain including some incredibly touching parts. The bad we shared wasn’t that bad and the joyful moments were amazing. We were just ‘kids” then who didn’t have a clue. E.T.

I am glad it cannot happen twice,
the fever of first love.
For it is a fever,
and a burden, too,
whatever the poets may say.

Will Always Remain

broken20heart1No matter what, I will always forget to forget about you. The more I try making what we shared a thing of my past, the more regret grows. I miss your smile; the way you kissed me; your laugh; feeling you against me and a thousand other things. I wish I didn’t. T.M.

I can’t completely let go of you,
Let go of us…
All I can say is I love you.
I know you don’t want to hear it,
But it makes no sense to pretend I don’t.
I miss you with all of me.
Things get easier,
but will never with you.
I’ll cry less,
But the pain will still be there.
The love we shared and gave to each other
Will always remain in my heart forever.

The Lesson

broken20heart1What is the lesson to I’m to learn from loving you? Is it that true love is lasting since I have carried you in my heart for decades? Is my lesson to be careful of who one loves? Is it to know the pain of love because I have caused it to others so often? What is it? F.Y.

The first step to wisdom is to know you know nothing
the way to appreciate is to start with nothing.
Well, all I know now is that I don’t have you
and all I posses is my craving for you.
I feel I’ve needed you since the beginning of time
on my way to wisdom I ask, will you ever be mine?
