Worthy Of Giving My Heart To

broken20heart1It took many pieces of broken loves to build a person strong enough to know true love when it arrived. To all who hurt me, caused sleepless nights, made me cry and broke my heart; thank you. Now I’m able to only love someone worthy of giving my heart to. H.E.

Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Don’t expect others to read your mind,
and don’t play games with their heads and hearts.
Don’t tell half-truths and expect people to trust you
when the full truth comes out.
Half-truths are no better than lies.
And don’t ignore someone you care about,
because lack of concern hurts more than angry words.

To Have Loved So Deeply

broken20heart1Sometimes I forget how much you hurt me. I don’t think you ever knew how my heart wept silently over you for years. It was a rewarding torture to love so richly and then live with the loss of you. Even in my darkest hour there has been joy to have loved so deeply. A.G.

If music
be the food of love,
play on,
Give me excess of it;
that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken,
and so die.
From “Twelfth Night”
by William Shakespeare

Always Be In My Heart

broken20heart1The pain from you casting me aside felt like it was going to kill me at times. The emptiness was crushing. Now two years later I still care about you, but it’s not a bad thing anymore. I’m in love with someone new now, but know you will always have a place in my heart. P.S.

Let no one who loves
be called altogether unhappy.
Even love unreturned has its rainbow
Eaton Stannard Barret

You Were My World

Our vacations to the sea are happily stuck in my mind. Waking Sunday mornings, reading the paper, drinking coffee and eating croissants with you is a favorite memory.  It hurts we’re no longer together, but I have many wonderful memories of when you were my world. P.S.

Always remember to forget
the things that made you sad,
but never forget to remember
the things that made you glad.
Elbert Hubbard

The Good of Having Loved

Like exercise makes my arms stronger, loving you added strength to my heart. Even though my heart is hurting, the good of having loved you remains. Some days remembering makes life more difficult, but most often my life is better because you were once in it. J.B.

You left behind a broken heart
And happy memories too
But I never wanted memories
I only wanted You.

When Your Heart Breaks Open

You believed in me when I didn’t deserve it. You stood by me when no one else would. But I let addiction almost destroy me. What we once shared was ruined by what I did. I’ve been sober now for seventeen months. Losing you broke me open and saved my life. E.S.

I understand that if you have never suffered
a broken heart, then you have never
really known what it is to truly be alive.
And I understand that at that precise moment,
when your heart breaks open,
that all you want to do is lay down and die!
Because you know that is the only way
the pain is ever going to stop.
Patti Roberts

To Have Loved and Lost

The worst of the pain is behind me and now I clearly see I’m better for loving you and having been loved by you. It took time to separate light from dark, good from bad, but it’s obvious now. More than anything else ever in my life our love changed me for the better. C.S.

I hold it true, whate’er befall,
I feel it when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost,
Than never to have loved at all.
Alfred Tennyson
